Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security declared Fundación Paraguaya’s Poverty Stoplight of institutional interest, as it is an instrument used to detect, reduce and eliminate poverty in the Republic of Paraguay.

Guillermo Sosa, Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, speaking during the Cerrito 2017 session.

The Ministry’s objective -within the Sustainable Development Goals,- is to eliminate poverty in all its forms; therefore, it wants to implement adequate systems and measures to achieve broad coverage of the most vulnerable population.

Fundación Paraguaya’s Poverty Stoplight is a measurement tool that gathers information and uses indicators in different aspects, using the colors red (extreme poverty), yellow (poverty) and green (poverty free). The difference with other instruments is that the Poverty Stoplight, in addition to measuring, puts the family as protagonist and drives it to take actions that will help to improve its indicators.

That is why this government agency saw the need; first, to initiate conversations with the representatives of Fundación Paraguaya; and then, to declare a priority and of institutional interest to the Poverty Stoplight so that this tool could be used for detecting, decreasing; and, finally, eliminating poverty in Paraguay.

Today, there are more than 90 organizations, including 86 national companies, which use the Poverty Stoplight so that a greater number of Paraguayans can improve their quality of life and finally leave poverty behind them.

In addition to the declaration of interest, the Ministry of Labor will become part of the “Poverty Stoplight for Businesses” program, a program that seeks to improve the quality of life of workers and their families. It will thus become the first public institution to join this program throughout the world. “We believe that with this decree and the leadership of the Ministry of Labor on these issues, more organizations will join as strategic allies of this program, including the Public Sector,” said Eduardo Gustale, Poverty Stoplight Manager.
